Groundwork BioAg Represented Israeli Climate-Tech at COP27 as Part of Israel’s First Official Delegation

Groundwork BioAg was honored to have been chosen as one of ten startups joining Israel’s official delegation to the 2022 UN COP27 conference. Alongside our fellow Israeli climate tech pioneers, we presented our vision for mycorrhizal soil carbon and discussed mycorrhizae’s impact potential on soil health and climate change at Israel’s inaugural pavilion in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Our COP27 experience began in Israel with an official delegation presentation to Israeli President Isaac Herzog. Israel’s low-carbon convoy then crossed the desert to Egypt, where we joined the Israeli national pavilion managed by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Israel Export Institute.

We met with stakeholders from the private and public sectors and shared the story of soil, crop resilience, and mycorrhizal carbon sequestration on the most global of stages. The experience led us to several conclusions:

  • Climate crisis action has become mainstream, but the global climate community is lacking centralized organization
  • Quality carbon offsets are in high demand but supplying carbon removal credits is challenging
  • The private sector’s involvement in the climate crisis requires a mature regulatory environment that supports compliance and carbon removal markets
  • The time to act is NOW!
